One of the reasons my family loves Christmas so much is all the fun and festive crafts we get to make together. This simple paper plate wreath is surprisingly easy to put together, and just look how cute it turns out! It’s a cheap and easy holiday project made with basic craft supplies, and the decorating possibilities are endless. Grab some pom-poms, glitter, ribbon, or whatever you have on hand, and let the kids get creative!
This easy paper plate wreath is a fun Christmas craft for kids of all ages. Just cut green construction paper into strips, cut out the center of a paper plate to create a wreath shape, and use a glue stick to wrap and secure the strips around the plate to create a festive, leafy wreath. Decorate it with some ribbon and pom-poms, then hang it on a door or wall for the holidays!

Supplies Needed
- paper plate
- variety of green colored construction paper
- colorful pom-poms
- scissors
- glue stick
- hot glue gun (for the pom-poms & bow)
- red ribbon (or make a bow with red paper)

Step 1Start by cutting out the center of a paper plate, leaving a rim about 2–3 inches wide. This will be the base of your Christmas wreath! Don’t worry about making the circle perfectly even since the green paper strips will cover the edges once everything is glued together.
Step 2Next, hold your green paper horizontally and cut it into long strips. To keep the strips nice and even, try using a ruler and pencil to mark your cutting lines first. This is especially helpful if you have little ones that need a guide.
Step 3Take one green paper strip and wrap it around the paper plate rim, bringing both ends together on the back. Use a glue stick to secure the overlapping ends, making sure the strip fits snugly around the plate.
Step 4Continue adding strips side by side and slightly overlapping until the entire paper plate is covered in green!
Step 5Once all the green strips are glued in place, use scissors to cut a small triangle out of each end. This creates cute little notched tips that give your wreath more texture and character!
Step 6Now for the fun part—decorating! Glue colorful pom-poms all around your wreath, then finish it off with a cute bow at the bottom. You can use real ribbon or make your own bow out of red construction paper. If using real ribbon, have an adult help attach it with a hot glue gun.
This easy Christmas craft turns into a colorful, festive wreath that kids can proudly hang on a door or wall to decorate your home or classroom! And don’t feel limited by the supplies listed here. Get creative with red and white construction paper, glitter, craft foam, paint, or whatever else you have tucked away in your craft cabinet. Half the fun is letting the kids come up with their own unique decorations!
Helpful Tips
- The easiest way to hang your paper wreath on a wall or door is with removable poster tape. You can also tape or glue a small loop of twine or ribbon to the back and hang it from a nail, small hook, or removable adhesive hook.
- A glue stick works best for securing the green paper strips because it keeps the paper smooth and prevents the bumps and wrinkles that liquid glue can cause. But I do recommend either liquid glue or a hot glue gun for the decorations.
