How to Make A Giant Word Search
- Grab some construction paper and write your Halloween word list. This list will be 10-15 different Halloween related words to hide in your word search. This will be your Answer Key.
- Roll out your butcher paper and write a first row of letters. Try to keep the spacing even. Add more rows of letter while trying to keep the same spacing top to bottom and side to side. Don’t worry if your lines get a little wonky this activity does not need to be perfect.
- Add your Halloween words from your answer key throughout the word search as you write the letters.
- Tape the finished DIY word search on your wall with painter’s tape. Tape the answer key next to the word search.
Easy DIY Halloween Word Search
Now it’s time for your kiddo to get searching. Grab a marker, paint dabber, or crayon and circle the Halloween words that they find. Make sure your kids cross off the words that they find on the answer key. My kiddos loved this fun game and I know yours will too!

Helpful Tips
- You’re never too old for a fun word search. So even if your big kid doesn’t want to participate at first, I bet if you leave this fun activity on your wall, you might just find them solving it later.
- Not everything needs to be giant. If you don’t have butcher paper, do this activity on regular printer paper. The fun is still the same.
- Have your kids use washable markers when they are solving the puzzle. That way you can wipe it off your wall if any marks accidentally go astray.

Believe it or not this isn’t necessarily a “reading” activity. It works more on pattern and letter recognition so even your preschoolers can enjoy this Giant Halloween Word Search!
