How To Paint With Bubbles
Set Up Your Painting Area: Grab a drop cloth or a plastic table cloth and cover your work area. I love to do this messy art project outside to minimize the clean up. In a shallow bowl or plate, mix 2 oz of bubble solution with 1 tablespoon of liquid watercolor. Do this for each color you want to use. We used 3 colors at a time to keep the paint from mixing too much and turning brown on the canvas.
Start Creating: Now it’s time to start painting! Dip the end of the bubble blower/wand into the colored bubble solution, aim at your canvas and blow. When the bubbles land on the canvas and pop they make the coolest designs ever! I love to let my kids got nuts with the bubbles. Just remember when the bubble solution starts to pool on your canvas it’s time to let it dry or all your colors will mix together.
Let Your Masterpiece Dry: Ok, here is the important part that we learned the hard way. Let you bubble painting dry before moving it. As you can see from the picture below, I moved my daughter’s bubble painting before it was dry and the colors ran together. It’s still beautiful but better to let your painting dry for about an hour before moving it.
I still can’t believe how much fun my kid had painting with bubbles. Such an inexpensive activity for kids that will keep them entertained for hours. I do recommend wearing an apron or clothes you don’t care about getting stained. But this easy craft is well worth it. Bubble painting is so much fun and your kids will ask to do it over and over!
Helpful Tips
- Make sure to cover your surface with a drop cloth or plastic table cloth for easy clean up.
- You can always add more or less liquid watercolor to your bubble solution depending on how vibrant you want the colors to be.
- I’ve read that you can also use liquid food coloring to color the bubbles if you don’t have any watercolors available. But I do not recommend using tempera or acrylic paint as it’s too thick and will weigh down your bubbles.
- Have an extra bowl of water handy to rinse your bubble blower in between colors so your colors do not mix together.
- I plan to hang this amazing art around the house. My kids will love that! How about yours?
